Under the auspices of the Upper East Regional NABCO Secretariat, a special Conference and career fair was organized for NABCO trainees in the region. The conference and Career fair program idea, is a program package to prepare trainees with some level of skillful training.
Addressing the media at the event, the Nation Builder Corps (NABCO) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anyars Ibrahim said, Upper East Region has one of the NABCO Skills and Talent Academy Regional road show. According to him, those who followed what happened when NABCO celebrated the 1st anniversary on October, 17 2019, when His Excellency the President Nana Akufo Addo launched a learning platform to make it easier for NABCO trainees to access the requisite skills and talents to be able to exit from the scheme.
“I am sure, we all know that the scheme was crafted for a period of 36 months (3 years)
So from the second year, our focus is to make sure the carrier pathways are clearly defined and we empower the trainees themselves to be able to exit”.
Dr. Anyars pointed that before Christmas, since the October anniversary, they decided that they should reach minimum of the trainees, the reason why, they have visited 12 regions on the NABCO skills and Talents Academy which is known as the Regional road shows, because of the bigger trainee audience they interact with in every region, the reason NABCO was captured a work and learn program.
“The first year, we delth with the comprehensive work placement and now, is the time to drew down to the learning process and the learning process should deliver 3 things, it should lead some of them to be maintained in their current place of work, it should lead some of them to gain entrepreneurship ideas and be able to start their own businesses or for those, who would want to join the labour market later, what they are gaining from NABCO can assist them to be able to pursue a carrier for course learning, so that by the time they will join the labour market, they will be more competent and ready work force”.
Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Minister Hon. Tangoba Abayage who was the guest of honor at the Carrier Fair Conference, commended the business and career moguls present for accepting to share experience in their respective areas of expertise with beneficiaries in order to prepare them for retention on their current departments, build skills for self-employment and help them develop future careers.
According to the Regional Minister, this noble idea could not have come from anywhere else than the visionary and dynamic leadership of the His His Excellency President Akufo Addo.
“NABCO came at a time that unemployment threatened the very foundation of security in Ghana”.
She further stated, that about 70,000 estimated youth who graduated from tertiary institutions in the country each year, only 10% could secure decent employment in the country. A situation she said at the time tended to rob young people of confidence in the leadership and prospects of the country which had the potential to erupt as a dangerous volcano every one.
The conference was scheduled into two sessions, the morning session is a panel discussion involving the following areas;
1. The Nation Builders Corps Programme on pathways to future careers by Mubarak Bowan, Director- Business Research and Skills Development NABCO
2. Strategic Positioning, Graduate Mindset towards Employment by Ms Akua Ampah Career Development Advisor, Ashesi University.
3. Professionalism, Workplace/Business Etiquettes; Appearance, Codes of Conducts/Ethics and networking by Perfect Manners.
4. Strategic Positioning, Graduate Mindset towards Employment Dr. Richard Kwabena Kyereboah, L’AINE SERVICES.
5. An MIP Perspective on the Nation Building and Human Capital Investment by Dr. Anyars Ibrahim (PhD) CEO, NABCO.
The afternoon session would comprise four (4) workshops in the following areas:
1. Business starts ups and Entrepreneurship by NBSSI
2. Agribusiness and Industrialization by KOSMOS INNOVATION CENTRE
3. Job Search and Career Pursuit by L’AINE SERVICES
4. Digital Labour Market by Vodafone.
However, the regional NABCO Coordinator Jambeidu Issahaku Khan, expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation shown by both the trainees and partners.
