The communication machinery of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), and that of government is currently in disarray, as some members of the communication team, are unwilling to speak for the party and the Akufo-Addo administration anymore, citing issues of neglect and selfishness by their leadership.
The government’s communication in particular, which was built around Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah with his deputy; Madam Fatimatu Abubakar, and that of the party, led by Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, is struggling to propagate government’s policies and achievements.
Some have privately confided in The Herald that they are not getting anything from the work they do, and are not being motivated well enough, because some selfish individuals have decided to sit on incentives meant for them, a situation that has demoralized them.
Interestingly, the least said about their counterparts in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) the better.
In the case of NDC, many of their communicators, appear to be interested only in marketing themselves by projecting their personal interests, rather than a collective good of their party; failing to take advantage of their opponent’s current weakened situation.
According to the NPP communicators, monies meant for ordinary party supporters, are not also getting to them any longer, hence are not ready to represent the party on media platforms.
They lamented that, many senior journalists, have been put on boards, while others have formally been employed into state institutions, but members of the communication team who are card-bearing members of the party, have been left to their fate.
Some of these senior journalists are being managed by Gabby Otchere-Darko – the powerful cousin of President Nana Akufo-Addo, who controls the communication machinery of the government, under the cloak of a political strategist.
But the party’s communicators complained that, apart from the monthly stipend received by these senior journalists, they also enjoy scholarship packages from the government, as well as holidays trips abroad, however, they who have been in the trenches and worked for Nana Akufo-Addo, to become President, have not even traveled to neighbouring Togo or Cote D’ivoire.
For some time now, readers would notice that some of the loud voices in the NPP communication team, who used to be regular on the airwaves and propagating the government’s achievements, appear missing, leaving many questioning their whereabouts.
This paper has also learnt, the likes of vociferous Bono-East Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe popularly known as ‘Abronye DC’ and others, have all declared their unwillingness to speak for the party again, until the issues of neglect among others are addressed.
Omanhene Kwabena Asante of the Multi Media Group, has in a video in circulation disclosed calling ‘Abronye DC’ to appear on one of their Current Affairs Programmes; Ekosiisen Friday Edition, but he declared he won’t appear to speak for the NPP.
He revealed even KwamiSefaKayi of Peace FM, has noticed the difficulties the ruling party is having in recent times and put it before President Akufo-Addo, when he appeared on the KokrokooProgramme, but the President did not address the matter.
Omanhene Kwabena Asante, who was speaking to Philip Osei Bonsu, host of Ekosiisen’ on the development, said many party loyalists have confided in him about the neglect and their suffering, but since he doesn’t have their permission to put it out, he can’t disclosed detailed information.
Omanhene Kwabena Asante, who hosts several programmes on the Multimedia platform, described the development as “Monkey de Baboon de chop”.
