MMDECs Appoinment: Tension Brews ln Ga East Over plan to sideline incumbent MCE

The decision made by the members of the 2020 Vetting Committee of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDECs) to recommend the appoinment of Madam Elizabeth Kaakie Mann as the new Ga East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) to replace the incumbent MCE, Mrs Janet Tulasi Mensah has degenerated into serious confusion and tension in the municipalilty.

The majority of the youth groups including the traditional office holders, chiefs, Assembly members, market women, students, religious leaders, members and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the area could not fathom why the members of the committee would rather recommend Madam Mann for the nomination for the MCE for Ga East looking at the good works the incumbent MCE has done to generally transform the municipalilty.

In that report, the three persons who are Elizabeth Kaakie Mann, Mr Robert Bonsu and Janet Tulasi Mensah were shortlisted for the position.

But in a report in possession of this news outlet, the members committee have recommended Madam Mann for nomination as MCE.

According to the report, the nomination of Madam Mann will balance the ethnic composition of the Ga East in the Greater Accra Region.

The report indicated that Madam Mann worked actively during the 2020 general elections and added that she has great appeal to across the ethnic groups in the constituency.

The report mentioned that Madam Mann was the secretary to the General Secretary from 2008-2014, explaining that she is a member of the Dome-Kwabenya’s Women’s Wing from 2016 to date.

The report pointed out that Madam Mann holds BSc in Business Administration from UPSA.

But in a quick response, majority of the constituetes interviewed punched deep holes into the report of the members of vetting committee.

They described the report as bogus, calling on President President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo to ignore the recommendation of the committee and retain Mrs Tulasi Mensah as the MCE for her second term to continue to work to bring sustainable development to the area.

They pointed out that looking at the performances of Mrs Mensah it has being a heinous crime for the members of vetting committee to team up with sone individuals of Dome-Kwabenya constituncy polling station executives to go and support Madam Mann to be appointed the new MCE of the area.

“We want to speak the truth and her achievements are glaring for everyone to see. She has built schools, provided potable water to our areas, improve the social welfare of the people, embarked on numerous developmental projects and projected the image of the constituency.

“So we want to state that the members of the vetting committee are wrong to team with constituncy and polling station executives who had endorsed the Madam Mann for the new Ga East MCE position. These individuals had done that because of their individuals selfish interest and not the constituncy at large.
