From October 1, new customers will be able to purchase the Zapper decoder and dish kit at half the current price, following a GH¢555 subsidy offered by MultiChoice.
“This initiative not only expands access but also demonstrates MultiChoice’s commitment as a responsible business operating in Ghana,” Communication Minister, Sam George said at a press conference in Accra.
In addition, government has announced a landmark deal with MultiChoice Africa that will see Ghanaian DStv subscribers enjoy between 33% and 50% more value for their money from October 1, 2025.
Under the new arrangement, subscribers will automatically be upgraded to higher-tier packages at no additional cost. For instance, those on the Family bouquet, currently priced at GH¢190, will now receive the Compact package valued at GH¢380 — a 50% increase in value, including access to live football.
“This offer goes beyond what we expected. I went in requesting 30%, but what has been delivered ranges from 33% to 50%,” Mr. George said, praising MultiChoice’s gesture as a direct relief to households already under economic pressure.
The government has welcomed the subsidy as a strategic move to broaden digital TV penetration while easing financial pressure on households.
The committee overseeing the agreement will reconvene in three months to evaluate its impact.
