Members of Aowin Traditional Council is urging the President of Western North Regional House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi to stop interfering in the affairs of the Council saying, they are autonomous and not under him.
The Aowin Traditional Council is accusing Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi for manifesting ill motives against the Council and decisions of Kingmakers and the Royal Family of Aowin Traditional Area, by supporting one Thomas Antwi-Agyei who was not nominated by the Oyoko Royal family and his installation also not done by Kingmakers of the Paramount stool but rather, by some people from National Security led by one uncle Ebo.
This was made known at a press conference organized by Members of the Aowin Traditional Council held in Accra on various issues including, opposing to the transfer of Mr. Elijah Kwasi Asare, the Registrar of the Council.
“Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyeb convened a meeting with Engr. Mussey, the spokesperson for Oyoko Royal Family of ATC; Ellis Famiah, the person nominated and selected by the Kingmakers for the Omanhene stool, and Nana Kwame Nkansah II at Atlantic Hotel, Takoradi. At the said meeting, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi stated, among other things that, he is in the process of getting Thomas Antwi-Agyei Gazetted. Therefore, the royal family should accept his proposal of 60/40 in favor of Thomas Antwi-Agyei and discontinue the petition at the Western Region House of Chiefs (WRHC), where he was the President. This ratio can best be explained by him”.
The Spokesperson for ATC, Nana Kwame Nkansah II disclosed that, upon refusing to heed to the request of Ogyeahoho, orchestrated the dismissal of a petition before the Judicial Committee.
“Immediately after the dismissal, he instructed the WRHC Registrar to transmit the unprocessed CD form of Thomas Antwi-Agyei to NHC for gazetting or registration as a chief. The said CD form were subsequently returned to the Western Region House of Chiefs by the then Registrar of the National House of Chiefs for the reason that it has never happened in the history of Chieftaincy where the president of the house of chiefs unilaterally instructs a registrar to transfer a CD form to NHC for GAZETTING”.
Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi according to Nana Kwame Nkansah II, during the pendency of the petition by the royal family and kingmakers before the WRHC judicial committee, instructed the lawyer of the WRHC to join a challenge of a vote of no confidence against the Acting President of the Aowin Traditional Council by Thomas Antwi-Agyei and his cohort at Wiawso High Court to defend the actions of those people”.
He added that, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi attempted to stop a recent meeting held by ATC by incessantly calling on the Registrar to move out of the town before the meeting date, and further threatened to cause his transfer.
Members of ATC he mentioned, are calling for the immediate reversal of Mr. Elijah Kwasi Asare’s transfer to forestall peace in the Traditional Area. “Nananom would like to further state that, this transfer has been done out of malice and ill-conceived agenda by Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi, the President of the Western North Region House of Chiefs (WRHC) and National House of Chief (NHC), to perpetuate his long-held evil motive to gazette the self-styled Omanhene, Thomas Antwi-Agyei”.
The Traditional Council, Nana Kwame Nkansah II stated, has not requested the Ministry of Chieftaincy to transfer the Registrar neither, have they reported nor passed any vote of no confidence in the Registrar.
Again, the Council have not reported any financial malfeasance against Mr. Asare adding that, they opposed the acting role convened on Miss Angela Aya Blay.
He said, the Council believe that the transfer of the Registrar, was orchestrated by Thomas Antwi-Agyei, as happened to two previous Registrar; Isaiah Quansah and Francis Akesse, with full and glaring support of Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi.
“We are interested in learning what Ogyeahoho wants for the Aowin Traditional Area. Ogyeahoho should not forget that the Chieftainciy Institution in Ghana is revered one built by his predecessors, which is why he was drawn to it. If he cannot add any value, he should not destroy what he inherited from his predecessor lest he dishonors Nananom, who gave him the position”.
